Diagnosis

The first step in treating breast cancer is to know for certain that cancer is present and which type it is.

Broadly there are 3 types of cancer and each is divided into 3 grades. The treatment of each is slightly different.

Grade one has low activity and grade 3 is growing most quickly:

1. Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) is actually the stage before cancer but it needs to be removed because there is a high likelihood that it will develop into cancer in the future.
2. Ductal cancer also known as ductal carcinoma.
3. Lobular cancer also known as lobular carcinoma.
